The meaning of Lent
Lent (Latin: Quadragesima: Fortieth) is a solemn religious observance in the Christian liturgical calendar that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends approximately six weeks later, before Easter Sunday. The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayer, doing penance, mortifying the flesh, repentance of sins, alms-giving, and self-denial. This event is observed in the Anglican, Eastern Orthodox, Lutheran, Methodist, and Roman Catholic Churches. Some Anabaptist and evangelical churches also observe the Lenten season. Its institutional purpose is heightened in the annual commemoration of Holy Week, marking the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the tradition and events of the New Testament beginning on Palm Sunday, further climaxing on Jesus’ crucifixion on Good Friday, which ultimately culminates in the joyful celebration on Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The meaning of WMSCOG Pentecost
WMSCOG Pentecost is same with the Feast of Weeks in the Old testament. It is the day of the outpouring of Holy Spirit, the motive power of the growth of the gospel in the Early Church(Act 2:1~47)
※ The Feast of Weeks.: Moses went up Mount Sinai on the fiftieth day after crossing the Red Sea. And he received the Ten Commandments from God. God commanded the people to commemorate this day, which was the origin of the Feast of Weeks(Exodus 24:1~18)
The date of WMSCOG Pentecost
WMSCOG Pentecost is the Feast of Weeks of Old testament. Therefore, when we know the date of the Feast of Weeks, we can know the date of Pentecost. The feast of WMSCOG Pentecost is the fiftieth day after the Day of First-fruits. The reason this feast is called the Feast of Weeks is that there are seven Sabbath after the Day of First-fruits. The day of First-fruits is the Day of Resurrection in New Testament.

Moses went up Mount Sinai on the fiftieth day after crossing the Red Sea to receive the Ten Commandments from God. God commanded to keep the Feast of Weeks to commemorate the day. In New Testament, On the fiftieth day after Jesus’ resurrection he gave Holy Spirit to his disciples and they commemorated it.
The difference between Lent and WMSCOG Pentecost
The difference between Lent and Pentecost is not just simply after 40 or 50 days. Basis Easter date calculation is different. Catholic and several churches keep Lent. Lent is based on Easter. The Easter is the first Sunday after the full moon after the spring equinox. It is not related with the Bible. Just as the disciples celebrated the Day of Pentecost (Act 2:1), today, the Church of God also celebrates the Day of Pentecost. The WMSCOG Pentecost by Church of God is fiftieth day after first Sunday(Resurrection day) after the day of Jesus’ death. The Day of Pentecost was given by our Holy Spirit Christ Ahnsahnghong and God the Mother.
